We had some awesome speakers at our Fall Seminar last week!
Doug Davis, Chief of Staff at the Mississippi Secretary of State’s Office shared information that is provided by the Secretary of State’s Office many of us were not aware of, check out their website. He also graciously provided us with a copy of the new Bluebook!
Judge Trey Arnold, Administrative Judge with the Mississippi Workers’ Compensation Commission, opened the door and allowed us to peak in on his work week. Did not realize the traveling involved!
For our lunchtime presentation, Alicia Hall gave us some great insight and things to consider regarding the cultural changes in today’s workplace. I even found out some things I have done are considered a “millennial thing”. Imagine that….. and now smile!
After lunch, Darren LaMarca, Chief of Criminal Division in the Southern District with the U.S. Attorney’s Office definitely kept our attention with stories of criminal activity, investigation, and prosecution. We hope he will agree to come back for more questions!
Professor Ed Sentell, Professor of Business Law at Mississippi College, gave us one of the most comprehensible presentations on Ethics that I have ever attended. Know the rules, trust your gut, you know what is right!
For our final presentation of the day, Barbara Meeks, a very experienced and qualified Nurse Paralegal gave us great examples of how to properly request medical records and prepare for trial. She answered many questions for us that we were never able to find someone knowledgeable enough to ask before!
Our seminar this year was a very informative, interesting, and participatory seminar. I encourage all of you to attend our next seminar which will be in April 2018. Our speakers, including our monthly luncheon speakers, are experienced and knowledgeable in their respective fields and consistently share a wealth of knowledge with us that is invaluable in our profession.
On behalf of MPA, I would like to express a heartfelt and big “Thank You” to all our speakers this year for taking the time out of their busy schedules to share their expertise with us and help us to do our jobs better and with more understanding of the attorney, judge, and issues at hand.
Our next luncheon will be our Yearly Membership Meeting on October 26 at noon at the Capital Club. We will not have a speaker presentation, however, we will have an open discussion regarding MPA and encourage ALL members to attend and share your thoughts and opinions for the future of MPA. We will have a few special things for members so don’t miss it! We are looking forward to seeing everyone on the 26th for a great time with friends!
