Spring Seminar First Speaker

MPA Spring Seminar was a success! I would like to extend a special thanks to our guest speakers, attendees, and MPA Board members for their participation and attendance. The WINNER of the Spring Raffle was Zenda Heafner. Zenda won a 40″ LED HDTV! Amanda Cain was awarded a certificate and a gift card for selling the most raffle tickets! Congratulations to Zenda Heafner and Amanda Cain.
MPA will volunteer to serve the homeless at Stewpot Community Center on tomorrow, April 29th at 11:30am. If you are interested in participating, please contact MPA Secretary Shantaye Payton. Your attendance and participation is encouraged.
Our next monthly luncheon will be held May 26, 2016 at the Capital Club from 12pm to 1pm. We hope to see everyone there!
MPA, Inc. will be hosting its 2016 Spring Seminar on Thursday, April 28, 2016. There will be great speakers, exciting topics, door prizes and fun for all. Be on the lookout for a complete brochure at a later date.

Re: MPA’s CLA Coordinator
Hello Certified MPA Members:
I hope this memo finds you in great spirits! MPA needs your help! As mentioned during the beginning of this year, MPA has a few committee chairpersons’ positions to be filled this year. One in particular is a CLA Coordinator. I believe that this position is an important one and we need dedicated persons to assist with helping other members and students to become certified.
This appointed Chairman must be a Certified Legal Assistant or a Certified Legal Assistant Specialist. The Coordinator will organize study sessions, including the annual Study Review Course, provide a meeting place, assist the group in setting up a study calendar, locate outside instructors as needed, and provide access to study material. This Chairman will work with NALA in providing an appropriate location for administration of the exam, if necessary.
Ms. Shovokie Dinkins, MPA’s Student Liaison and Paralegal Director at Hinds Community College Jackson Campus has agreed to assist with the study groups and/or offer her assistance. However, we will need an MPA Certified member to lead the study group and oversee this project. We currently do not have anyone assisting in this area. It would be great to have at least two to four certified members to oversee this project and work with Ms. Dinkins. This would be beneficial for students completing the paralegal program and for those paralegals seeking certification.
I am asking for at least four volunteers to assist and drive this project. If you are willing to serve as a CLA Coordinator and assist with helping others to become certified, please respond via email directly to me at email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org.

RE: MPA Spring Raffle
MPA will raffle a SCEPTRE 40″ LED HDTV at our Spring Seminar on April 28, 2016. The funds raised will go towards our student scholarships and other MPA Business as needed. The Raffle tickets will be sold for $5.
I am asking for all member participation. Our goal is for each member to sell at least six raffle tickets. Of course, we are encouraging members to sell as many tickets as possible. The member who sells the most number of tickets will be rewarded at the Spring Seminar.
The raffle tickets will be sold from March 11, 2016 through April 28, 2016. All tickets sold and money should be submitted to MPA’s Treasurer, Tanya Trosclair, no later than the morning of April 28, 2016, during registration at the Spring Seminar. There are six raffle tickets attached to this memo. You may print more tickets as needed.
Again, I encourage all member participation in order to make this raffle a success. I am available for any questions via email. Thank you much!
A WELCOME MESSAGE FROM GLENISA JILES, MPA PRESIDENT
Happy New Year Members! I welcome each of you and hope that you all have had a prosperous year thus far. This year MPA has put together various events and activities for our members. We have an interesting line up of speakers and topics for our luncheons and seminars. I encourage each member to participate in MPA activities and functions we have planned for the year. Within the next couple of weeks, I will send out notices to all members of the upcoming events and activities. With the involvement of all members, MPA will have a successful year!
This year I will be attempting to fill vacant board member positions and committee chairman positions. I have attached a printout of the vacant positions and their responsibilities. 2016 NALA Convention

Stewpot Community Services
MPA will be volunteering at Stewpot on Friday, April 29, 2016. MPA members who are interested in volunteering should email Shantaye Payton, MPA Secretary as soon as possible. You should arrive at Stewpot no later than 11:30 a.m. We look forward to seeing you there!!!
Blair E. Batson Children Hospital
MPA is currently accepting donations for the Blair E. Batson Children Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi. Donations will be accepted from now until December 1, 2015. Please contact a MPA board member should you wish to donate to this worthy cause.
1. Toiletries – Any type of toiletry such as soap, lotion, mouthwash, toothpaste, toothbrush, deodorant, wipes, and any other type of toiletries. This is much needed at both hospitals. Usually parents do not know when they are coming to Blair E. Batson, so the hospital provides the parents toiletries. This is very much needed; and/or
2. Magazines – Any type of magazines that are in good condition. Parents like to have them and read them. Sometimes they do not want to turn the television on after their son or daughter has drifted off to sleep, so they read magazines.

The April 2016 Spring Seminar and luncheon will be at on Thursday, April 28, 2016 at the Capital Club (Downtown Jackson), 125 South Congress Street, Jackson, MS 39201. There will be great speakers, exciting topics, door prizes and fun for all. The luncheon will be buffet style. Please make plans to attend.
The Seminar and luncheon fee is $35.00 for MPA Members, $20 for Students, $45 for Non-members and $17.00 for the luncheon only. The fees include parking for the Capital Club. The Remote Location will not meet this month. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org by 12:00 noon on the Monday before the seminar and luncheon if you plan to attend – and designate which location you will be attending. Please remember if you make reservations to attend the luncheon and do not attend, you will be responsible for the $17.00.
